Matriculation Fee

Replacing Graduate Student Graduation Fee with a Matriculation Fee

Effective July 2010

There will be a one-time matriculation fee of $100 to replace select administrative fees and the graduation fee.

  • The one-time matriculation fee will be paid during the first term (semester or quarter) of enrollment for master’s or doctoral degree-granting students, and the fee will be posted to student accounts automatically.
  • Certificate and non-degree students will not be charged a matriculation fee.
  • There will be no fee associated with an application for graduation for a master’s or doctoral degree. Students who do not graduate as expected, but plan to graduate during a future term, are still required to complete and submit a new application for graduation to their Dean’s Office.  There will be no fee associated with reapplying for graduation.
  • Students who participate in the commencement ceremony will still pay the costs to purchase or rent regalia.

Implementation

The starting term (semester or quarter) for the matriculation fee is Fall 2010.

  • All newly matriculated degree-seeking students will be charged the matriculation fee.
  • During the transition, all continuing degree-seeking students will be charged a one-time fee of $100 in Fall 2010.
  • Continuing students who have already applied for graduation and paid a fee but have not graduated will be exempt from paying the one-time matriculation fee.
  • Degree-seeking students not enrolled during a Fall 2010 term (semester or quarter) will be charged the one-time during the next term of enrollment.
  • Beginning in Fall 2010, graduate students will not be charged a graduation fee.
  • Arrangements will be handled on a case-by-case basis for situations not covered in this document.
  • This plan has been shared with the Provost, the Council of Deans, and Graduate Program Directors and each group has indicated its support.
