The choice of program depends on your career plans. Students who are uncertain about long-term career plans are encouraged to speak with a member of the program faculty or the Enrollment Advisor prior to submitting an application.

We recommended applicants have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 for all graduate programs. However, if you do not meet the GPA recommendation or have concerns about your previous academic record, you may apply and complete the academic explanation essay as a qualitative supplement to your transcripts. This brief explanation only needs to be 1-2 paragraphs long, detailing the factors contributing to your previous academic performance.

Some programs do have prerequisites. To confirm whether your program of interest requires any special requirements or prerequisites, visit the program page under Academics.

Most programs require some kind of testing. For more specific testing information, check each program's admission requirements.

International applicants must submit additional documentation. For more information, see international students.

Each program has a different application deadline. Be sure to check our Application Process page to find the application deadline for your particular program.

Students applying as a non-degree student, and if admitted, can apply up to 6 hours or 2 courses toward a degree program. For more information, review our non-degree application process page. Students who are admitted and enroll on a non-degree basis are not eligible for financial aid and are not guaranteed admission to a degree-seeking program should they choose to apply.

School of Education courses are offered mainly at the Water Tower Campus. To accommodate the majority of our students who are full-time professionals in educational settings, courses are offered weekdays in the afternoons and evenings.

For Master’s programs that only admit once a year and all doctoratal programs applications will be reviewed after the application deadline, not before. Applications will be processed shortly thereafter and admission notification will go out within 6-8 weeks. For most Master’s programs that admit on a rolling basis, meaning they admit more than once a year, admission notification will go out within 6-8 weeks of the university having received a completed application. If you complete the online application, the application fee is waived. If you submit a paper application, you must submit a $50 application fee. By applying online, you can save your information and log in later with a username and password. Applicants should list in chronological order all academic work attempted or completed, including professional schools. You must request official transcripts for all schools attended. If you neglect to list all institutions where you took courses for credit it is considered academic fraud. If you audited a class or took a class for no credit, it is not necessary to list that institution.

Yes, if you were known by a different name at some point, note that name in the appropriate place on the application.

Official university/college transcripts bearing the official seal of the institution and the signature of the registrar are required for all previous post-secondary education. Certified copies are acceptable; photocopies are not.

Yes, official transcripts are required for international applicants, even if the transcripts are not written in English. International applicants are also required to complete an evaluation through Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE). This process verifies whether the degree earned is the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree.

The letters of recommendation may be professional or academic. You should ask three people who can speak to why you are a good candidate for the program to which you have applied and/or have traits that would make you a valuable professional in the field.

The statement of purpose needs to be clear and thorough, yet concise. The length of the essay should only be 1-3 pages, double-spaced.

If you take the exam more than once, we consider your highest composite score.
