SCPS Department Scholarships
There are various department scholarship opportunities available thanks to the gifts and donations of various supporters and the alumni of Loyola University Chicago.
Application Process
Applicants should submit

A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file at the time of application. To apply or learn more about filing a FAFSA, see the Office of Financial Assistance.
- A completed application. Only one application needs to be submitted to be considered for any department scholarship. Each applicant will be evaluated for each award's criteria; there is no need to submit multiple applications.

An original essay describing why you chose to resume your studies and how earning your degree/certificate will assist you in reaching your personal/career goals. The essay must be a minimum of 300-350 words, double-spaced, typed. If you are applying to renew a previously received scholarship, please indicate any updates or achievements you deem relevant.

Submit your application and essay to the School of Continuing and Professional Studies Scholarship Committee, Lewis Towers, 401, 820 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the date of deadline.
- Application Deadlines: Fall 2011 - August 1; Spring 2012 - December 1.
- Mary and Frances Bryner Scholarship
Mary and France Bryner funded a scholarship to support the needs of adult students completing their degree. The scholarship is awarded to students working on their first degree. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- University College Scholarship
This scholarship was established to help support students returning to college to work toward his/her first undergraduate degree.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree program.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Magdalene Herzog Scholarship
In honor of her devotion to female students, the Magdalene Herzog Scholarship was established to assist women in returning to school as adults. Female students working toward a first bachelor's degree are eligible to apply.
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Mary Louise Miller Scholarship
This fund was established to in the name of Loyola graduate Mary Louise Miller, to 'provide additional scholarship funds for students who might otherwise not be able to afford or attend this institution'.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- SCPS Scholars
A scholarship established with generous funds from alumni to help students with tuition costs.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Alyce Salerno Foundation Scholarship
A fund established to assist women with furthering their careers through education.
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree or certificate program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Loretta M. Schmidt Scholarship
Loretta M. Schmidt was devoted to adults in education at Loyola, and established a scholarship to "ensure the perpetuity and continued financial support of women and men students ...to complete their undergraduate education." Students working on a degree or certificate program are eligible to apply.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree or certificate program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by a filled Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Curt Teich Foundation Scholarship
A fund establlished to help student to 'defray tuition expenses of those who otherwise would not either start their college education or complete it.'
Scholarship Criteria:
- Currently pursuing or newly admitted to a School of Continuing and Professional Studies undergraduate degree program.
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA. If new to Loyola at the time of application, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from each transfer institution or high school.
