Study Abroad Program

Loyola University School of Social Work is creating ways to better prepare our students for practice with immigrant communities.  For the past five years, Loyola University Chicago students have been involved in intensive field placements with the people and communities of the rural villages of Chiapas.  These field-work placements have challenged students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations.

The School of Social Work will also be offering courses in two exciting Mexican cities, Puebla and San Cristobal.  Puebla is 60 miles southeast of Mexico City.  The city's architecture is rich with Renaissance and Baroque influences and offers a large central square, great restaurants and many historic sites to visit.  San Cristobal is best known for the Zapatista movement's influence.  Infused with indigenous culture, particularly of the Mayan people, San Cristobal is filled with beauty and history. Students are invited to participate in any of the courses and/or the internship.  In order to be accepted for a field placement, students must speak Spanish fluently.
