Christine Wiseman, J.D.
Provost
Christine Wiseman, J.D., became Loyola's Provost and Chief Academic Officer on July 1, 2007.
Prior to joining Loyola, Provost Wiseman was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Law, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. At Creighton, she led strategic planning and the university's re-accreditation efforts, as well as interdisciplinary initiatives such as joint academic forums to foster collaboration between the health sciences and other disciplines. She also supervised Enrollment Management, the Registrar's Office, Student Retention, the Office of International Programs, the university library, federally-funded TRIO programs, and a $2 million Lilly grant which supports Creighton's Cardoner Program.
Provost Wiseman received her Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Marquette University Law School and an Honors Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Marquette University College of Liberal Arts. She has spent nearly 30 years in Jesuit Catholic higher education and was the first woman to rise through academic ranks to a position of senior academic leadership at Marquette University. During her tenure there, she served as Professor of Law, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the law school, and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for the university. She was also an Assistant Wisconsin Attorney General and a federal district law clerk before entering the field of higher education.
A frequent guest speaker on education and legal issues, Provost Wiseman has received numerous awards for her leadership, teaching excellence and death row representation. She has published various articles, books and book chapters, and is active in public service and other professional activities. Provost Wiseman and her husband William Wiseman, J.D., have three children.
