Economics/Finance

The Finance/Economics program offers complete criminal justice training, with an emphasis in finance, banking, and economics. Adult learners will receive a foundation in law enforcement, corrections, and security, along with develop job skills in accounting, finance, and money management.

Program Requirements

The BA in Criminal Justice with Finance/Economics concentration comprises 120 credit hours. Classes are offered in evening/weekend sessions. Classes are offered in the traditional (on campus) format with several online classes available.

I. Criminal Justice Major Courses: 36 credit hours

  • CJC 101 The Criminal Justice System
  • CJC 201 Theories of Criminal Behavior
  • CJC 202 Criminal Courts
  • CJC 203 Policing
  • CJC 204 Corrections
  • CJC 205 Research Methods

   Select one of the following courses: 3 credit hours

  • CJC 322 Criminal Law
  • CJC 323 Criminal Procedure

   Select one of the following courses: 3 credit hours    

  • CJC 390 Capstone Experience Internship
  • CJC 399 Capstone Course

  Four CJC Electives: 12 credit hours

II. SCPS Requirements: 6 credit hours

  • CPST 200 Introduction to Degree Completion
  • CPST 201 Professional Identity and Development
  • CPST 397 Capstone

Students may choose one of the following concentrations:

  • ECON 325: Economics of Development and Growth
  • ECON 328: Environmental Economics
  • ECON 329: Health Economics
  • ECON 355: Economics of Real Estate

IV. University Core Requirements

V. Electives

A total of 120 credits are required for the degree at Loyola University Chicago. Sources of the remaining credits can include courses offered in the SCPS 8-week session schedule or the 16-week semester schedule. Transfer credits (not already used in the major, concentration, or University Core), Prior Learning Assessment, CLEP, DSST, or ACE-evaluated credits (such as your military transcript) can all used to fulfill the remaining elective credit requirements that get you to 120 credits, subject to residency and other requirements.
