Thomas Derdak joined Loyola in 1979 as Adjunct Professor of Philosophy. He has over twenty years of management experience. As founder and executive director of Global Alliance for Africa, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995, he has fifteen years of not-for-profit management experience in administration, organization, program development, fund raising, accounting, and public relations. He has ten years direct work experience in Africa, including Liberia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.

Professional & Community Affiliations
Founder and Executive Director, Global Alliance for Africa, Chicago
Oversaw full cycle implementation of 7 health care development programs in some of the most complex and challenging social, environmental and political contexts in the world. Participated in and supervised needs assessments, program design and formulation, set-up, organization, management, oversight, follow-through and impact analyses. Worked with local NGOs and community groups to design and implement programs with sensitivity to local conditions, histories, and needs.
Signed major NGO/university partnership with Loyola University Chicago to collaborate on educational and service learning programs in East Africa.
Developed successful on-site educational programs in East Africa with Loyola University, Northern Illinois University, Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago, and Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago
Opened East Africa regional office in Arusha, Tanzania.
Designed entrepreneurial initiatives to fund programs and administrative operations, e.g., private/public partnership to sell items at Disney World for AIDS Orphans Programs, Mount Kilimanjaro Climb to Benefit AIDS Orphans in East Africa, educational trips abroad to visit program sites, 5K run to benefit AIDS Orphans Programes, etc.
