RESEARCH INTERESTS

The present research emphasis is a study of movements with sonic transmitters of smallmouth bass in Lake Michigan. Within the last decade, smallmouth bass populations have exploded along the Illinois shoreline of Lake Michigan. However, during the summer months, the fish disappear and then re-appear in the spring. The main goal is to determine movement patterns for each of what appear to be several different local populations and to uncover probable reasons for the observed patterns that would be the basis for future research. Attempts will also be made to find genetic markers to distinguish the different populations.
