General Information
The Halas Sports Center is available for use upon presentation of a current Loyola ID or a current Halas Sports Center membership card. Please bring such identification each time you visit the facilities.
Use of the facilities is considered a privilege. Any individual not cooperating with established departmental policies or university regulations may be asked to leave and may be referred for disciplinary action.
The staff of the Department of Campus Recreation will not be held responsible for personal belongings. Daily lockers are available. Please secure all valuables. Lock rentals, coat key check-out, are available at the Halas Sports Center Pro Shop. The department's lost and found is located at the Pro Shop for clothing and at the main office for valuables. Items not claimed in 30 days will be donated to charity.
Eating and drinking are restricted to the lobby area in the Halas Sports Center. Tobacco, drugs, and the use of alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
Membership fees are required of anyone five years of age or older. Children under fourteen years of age should be accompanied by an adult at all times while using the facilities. Children under fourteen are not allowed in the weight room, conditioning rooms, or cardiovascular room, and are not permitted on the variable resistance machines. All equipment must be used for its intended purpose. One adult should be present for every four children that enter the facilities. Children should not be left unattended by a parent or guardian at any time. Strollers are not allowed in actiity areas except with special permission from a professional staff member.
All participants must wear athletic clothing and non-marking athletic footwear. Shirts are required in the weight room, the conditioning rooms, the cardiovascular room, the racquetball courts, the dance room, and in the lobby area of the Halas Sports Center. Closed toed shoes must be worn in all areas except the lobby and the pool area.
All racquetball racquets should have a protective bumper and safety thong. Safety glasses are strongly recommended.
Use of bicycles, skateboards, and roller skates/blades in the Halas Sports Center, on the outside track, or on the Halas field is not permitted.
Only personal stereos with headphones are allowed in the facilities.
Inquiries for exclusive use of an activity area should be presented to a professional staff member. A room reservation form must be completed and submitted ten working days prior to the event.
Members should be advised that certain areas of the Halas Sports Center may, on occasion, be unavailable due to exclusive reservations. In such instances, as much advance notice as possible will be provided.
Only personal flotation devices approved by the U.S. Coast Guard are permitted in the pools.
Only appropriate swim items such as swim goggles, towels, and swimming footwear are permitted in the pool area. All other belongings should be secured in a locker in the locker room. A soap shower is required prior to entering the pool.
All participants using the indoor track should comply with the following directional guidelines: Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday clockwise; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday counterclockwise.
Guest Policy
The Halas Sports Center is intended for the use and enjoyment of the Loyola University Chicago community. On occasion, members may wish to use the facility with a guest. Guests may be required to show some form of current photo or signature ID.
The member must accompany the guest and stay with the guest during their visit. The member is responsible for the guest at all times during their stay.
Guest fees are $10 per individual (up to three guests per visit) or $12 per guest family (defined as a spouse and/or dependent children). Persons eligibe for membership who have not purchased a semester, annual, or summer membership must purchase a daily membership for $10 before guests may be sponsored. Guest fees are required for anyone five years of age or older.
Children under fourteen years of age are not allowed to bring guests. All equipment must be checked out by the sponsoring member.
Liability Statement
Individuals who participate in any Campus Recreation program or who use the campus recreation indoor and outdoor facilities agree to discharge Loyola University Chicago and all of its trustees, agents, and employees from all claims, actions, or causes of action on account of any injury which may occur from using these facilities, except for any such claim due to the sole negligence or fault of the university.
Further, members agree to hold the Loyola University Chicago harmless and fully indemnify the university from any action or damages to property or person arising out of the act of said members, their family, or guests.
Health and Safety
The Department of Campus Recreation and Loyola University Chicago do not assume any responsibility for injuries sustained by individuals participating in Campus Recreation programs. Hospitalization insurance comparable to that of the Student Hospitalization Program should be obtained by the individual before participation.
The StudentHealth Service renders services to students. Any person who is injured during Campus Recreationactivity is required to notify the building manager.
