Walk-Tober Wellness Challenge

Start this academic year by making a commitment to your wellness!

Sponsored by Campus Recreation, this month long challenge is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to work on individual goals towards a healthier, more balanced live.  Individuals can earn weekly points for healthy activities such as walking, managing stress, sleeping well, and flossing.

Campus Recreation has a number of scheduled 'lunch break walks' during the month of October to help you earn points!

The challenge concludes with an awards luncheon on November 1st.

The first 20 people who sign up will receive a pedometer.  Already own a pedometer?  Perfect!  When you email to register, feel free to put that in!  The following below will give you more information of how to earn points.

Important Dates

October 1 at 12:00 pm: Registration Deadline

October 2 at 12:00 pm: Kickoff Luncheon - Mundelein Greenhouse

  1. The first 20 people who register for the program will receive a pedometer.
  2. Each participant will receive information on how to set the pedometer and rules for program participation at the kick off meeting on October 2 at 12:00 pm.  Location: Mundelein Greenhouse.
  3. Participant is responsible for entering his/her steps and progress into the online system.  Individuals can choose if they are interested in full wellness challenge or just the Walk-Tober portion.
  4. At the end of the program, awards will be given for 'Highest Overall Point Winner' and 'Most Steps Taken'
  5. Halas will host weekly walks to help participants reach the recommended steps per day.  The walks will be lead by a member of the fitness staff of Halas Recreation Center.  Each walk, participants will receive additional information on walking and/or wellness.  Weekly walks will mbeet at Sean Earl Fidle and are scheduled for the following times:
    • Thursday, October 4 at 12:00 - 12:30 pm
    • Wednesday, October 10 at 12:30 - 1:00 pm
    • Monday, October 15 at 12:30 - 1:00 pm
    • Thursday, October 18 at 12:00 - 12:30 pm
    • Tuesday, October 23 at 12:00 - 12:30 pm
    • Friday, Ocober 26 at 12:30 - 1:00 pm
    • Tuesday, October 30 at 12:00 - 12:30 pm
  6. Points are awarded as follows:
    • One point for every day you reach 10,000 steps.
    • 1/2 point given for every 1,000 additional steps per day (2 pints max).
    • One point for every weekly wellness dimension complete.
    • One point for every general wellness task completed each week.
  7. Wrap up meeting will be held on Thrusday, November 1. Location to be determined.
