How do I sign up for Ramble Outdoors Experiences?  

You can sign up online at https://lucapps.luc.edu/webtrac/ (sign-in and then click 'outdoor activities') or sign up in person at the Halas Recreation Center.

Registration is limited and will fill quickly – sign up today to secure your spot.  Generally, no experience is needed and financial aid is available for experiences costing at least $25.  Email outdoors@luc.edu with questions or pmiller2@luc.edu with requests for special accommodations.

2015 Spring Outdoor Experiences  

Spring Break Foothills of the Smoky Mountains Backpacking
2/28-3/7/2015 - $300

Spring Break Foothills of the Smokies BackpackingWant to take a risk and try something new this spring break? Are you interested in learning how to backpack and challenge yourself to live outside for multiple days? This outdoor experience may be for you! After a road trip to South Carolina, we will explore and campout in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Our itinerary is geared for first-time backpackers, but all experience levels will enjoy the beauty and solitude of this trip. This trip is an expedition of sorts and we will be carrying all of our gear on our backs — resulting in an excellent outdoor learning experience and challenge.

This is a terrific opportunity to build new friendships, learn outdoor skills, unplug, be challenged and take in some beautiful time in nature. The trip cost of $300 includes a rocking road trip both ways, lodging, group gear, meals in the field, backpack, sleeping bag, and headlamp. Road trip meals as well as personal gear (jackets, hats, etc.) are not included in the cost. Spring Break Red River Gorge Rock Climbing

Red River Gorge ClimbingAre you at a loss for what to do this spring break? Are you looking for a shorter trip that won’t take up your entire break? Immerse yourself in a unique adventure with Ramble Outdoors. An opportunity to strengthen your body and relax your mind. Red river gorge is home to some of the best outdoor climbing in the United States. Our team will be taking up to nine students to experience this one of a kind trip. We will arrive in Red River Gorge Kentucky on Monday evening of spring break and spend the remainder of the week climbing, hiking, and exploring the early spring bounties of Red River Gorge and Daniel Boone National Forest. Whether you are a first time climber or a rock climbing guru, all are welcome! There will be opportunities to enhance and sharpen your skills at any level. Climbing gear will be provided. The trip cost of $375 includes a rocking road trip both ways, lodging, group gear, meals in the field, climbing gear and instruction, sleeping bag, and headlamp. Spring Break Suwannee River Florida Canoe Trip
2/27-3/7/2015 - $350‌

‌‌Spring Break Suwannee River Canoe TripAfter a rocking road trip, we will spend our first day in Florida exploring the historic Stephen Foster State Park on the banks of the Suwannee River. After that our paddling adventure will begin! We will spend four days and four nights on the river, by day exploring what the local ecology has to offer and by night setting up camp along the river. Our itinerary is geared for first-time paddlers, but varied paddling conditions will provide a challenge for all. Reflection, lessons on the local ecology, cooking amazing meals and of course enjoying this amazing natural area are all on the agenda.

This is a terrific opportunity to escape the cold, build new friendships, learn outdoor skills, relax, and be challenged in a beautiful environment. The trip cost of $350 includes the road trip both ways, lodging, group gear, meals in the field, canoes, sleeping bag, and headlamp. Custom Experiences

Your group, no matter the size or experience, is welcome at Ramble Outdoors. Learn about yourself and others and become a high functioning and enjoyable team by participating in a custom experience hosted by Ramble Outdoors.  Ramble Outdoors can design a custom trip experience that will be fun, challenging, and provide time away from campus in the natural environment.  A custom trip can strengthen your group in teambuilding, leadership, and provide knowledge and experience in the outdoor setting.
