Majors and Minors in CAS

If you are interested in pursuing a major or minor listed below, please direct your questions to the appropriate contact person. If you have declared a major or minor and have an assigned faculty advisor in that area, work directly with that faculty member. If you have declared your major, but do not have an assigned faculty advisor, please visit your academic department or program director's office to be assigned to a faculty advisor.
 

   
Majors and Minors Outside CAS

To pursue any major listed below (instead of a major within the College of Arts and Sciences), a CAS student must apply for internal transfer from CAS to the appropriate school within Loyola (business administration, communication, education, nursing, or social work). Internal transfer applications are available from the Undergraduate Admission Office.

Internal Transfer
Current Loyola students need a 2.00 minimum cumulative GPA to be considered for internal transfer admission to the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration, or the School of Communication, and a 2.50 cumulative GPA to be considered for internal transfer admission to the School of Education, the School of Social Work, or the Health Systems Management program within the School of Nursing. Loyola students wishing to transfer into the Nursing program within the School of Nursing need a minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA and are considered on a case-by-case basis, pending available space in the program.

Secondary Education Certification
Students pursuing certification for secondary-school teaching are multiple-degree students. They are enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, where they complete a major in biology, chemistry, English, French, history, Italian, Latin, mathematics, political science, psychology, Spanish or theatre; and they are also enrolled in the School of Education where they complete the major in secondary education. Students who pursue a secondary education major will earn both a B.A. or B.S. degree in their field within the College of Arts and Sciences and a B.S.Ed. degree in secondary education within the School of Education.

Multiple Bachelor's Degrees (Multiple-Degree-Seeking Students)
Students wishing to pursue multiple undergraduate degrees (such as a B.B.A. from the School of Business Administration and a B.S. or B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences, or a B.S.Ed. from the School of Education and a B.A. and a B.S. from the College of Arts and Sciences) are multiple-degree students. Students should contact all appropriate undergraduate dean's offices and should consult with advisors in both majors/schools regarding requirements. They must complete the requirements for both majors/schools, the university Core Curriculum, and any electives necessary to reach 120 credit hours. To apply for status as a multiple-degree student, submit a multiple-degree application to the dean's office of the school you wish to add to your current school.
