Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, all students in the College of Arts and Sciences must complete all Core, major, and college requirements, as well as enough general electives to reach a minimum of 128 credit hours. Students should review CAS degree requirements and the general graduation requirements listed on this page, including residency and GPA thresholds.

Students must be admitted to Loyola University Chicago with all records from other institutions in order. Requirements at the time a student enters the College of Arts and Sciences will apply upon graduation. If formally re-admitted to the College, the candidate is held to the requirements at the time of readmission.

The student must:

  1. Successfully complete a minimum of 128 credit hours
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better for all work attempted at Loyola and for all combined transfer and Loyola credits
  3. Complete all the prescribed and elective courses specified for the degree that he/she requests from the university
  4. Demonstrate acceptable levels of skill in the college requirements
  5. Spend the last 45 hours of instruction or a total of 64 hours in residence
  6. Complete a major field of study
  7. File his/her application for the degree before the assigned dates: the first week in October for degrees to be awarded in May; the first week in April for degrees to be awarded in January
  8. Have discharged all financial obligations to the university

Honors Degrees

Students who have completed their degree programs inthe Honors Program receive a degree with a special honors designation: e.g., Bachelor of Arts, Classics, Honors; Bachelor of Arts, Honors; or Bachelor of Science, Honors.
