This institute is designed to deepen the knowledge base and skill set needed for department chairs to function effectively as learning leaders within their schools, supporting school mission and student achievement. Sessions will bridge theory and research-based best practices and will include samples, templates, self-assessment and planning tools, hands-on activities, and collaborative problem solving.
The institute will address the ability of department chairs to:
- Use data for instructional decision making
- Develop and support a learning community culture and build teacher learning teams
- Coach and monitor standards-based, learning-focused curriculum design
- Supervise and coach teachers to improve instruction
- Plan effective professional development
- Use time and resources for what's important
