Professional Development

CHAPTER Partners

To support and retain teachers in high-need schools, CHAPTER instructors provide high-quality professional development to teacher candidates, teachers and administrators at our partner schools and districts. Through professional development seminars, pre-service teachers, teachers and administrators develop a better understanding of the latest research trends and how to apply that research to their teaching. Participants increase their knowledge of the principles, concepts and models of inquiry in the areas of science, bilingual and special education.

District and School Partners
CHAPTER works collaboratively with its partner districts and schools to provide high quality, sustained and continuous professional development. CHAPTER's partners include:

CHAPTER Forum

CHAPTER Scholars

Professional development activities are a vehicle for educators to become life-long learners, to gain a better understanding of themselves and the teaching profession, to increase their knowledge and to develop as leaders. In an effort to promote continuous learning candidates are encouraged to:

  • Become active members in a professional organization
  • Share their skills and talents in after-school programs
  • Participate in staff development meetings
  • Attend local conferences
  • Ask questions, be open-minded and appreciate multiple perspectives
  • Immerse themselves in the school community
  • Use reflection as a means to critically think about their own teaching and what they are observing in schools

CHAPTER scholars learn from the experts through their participation in professional development programs. Attending such meetings assists in forming professional habits and begins the practice of life-long learning.
