Learning Communities
We are creating opportunities at partner school sites for everyone to be a teacher and a learner. By forming common goals, opening dialogue and sharing ideas, we are establishing learning communities. Such an environment promotes enhanced learning for children, stronger connections with parents and professional growth for teacher candidates, teachers and administrators. The learning communities are developed through various program components.
Clinical Experiences
Clinical experiences afford teacher candidates ways in which to bridge theory and practice. Candidates work in classrooms, under the guidance of an experienced teacher, to learn about the day-to-day aspects of teaching and learning. Candidates gain firsthand knowledge in aspects of child development and motivation, curriculum and instruction, assessment and working with parents and colleagues. They also are exposed to those features of schooling that must be experienced to be appreciated, including the physical demands of teaching, handling non-instructional responsibilities and responding to changing classroom dynamics.
School Profiles
CHAPTER scholars learn about teaching from their experiences in schools. A number of school sites serve as hosts for clinical placements in which teacher candidates gain first-hand experience in working with students.

Scholars in the Classroom
CHAPTER scholars spend nearly 300 hours in schools to gain valuable classroom experience. Working closely with students, under the guidance of a cooperating teacher, they have the opportunity to practice teaching strategies learned in university courses.
