CHAPTER Scholarship Re-Application
Current CHAPTER scholars in the School of Education who agree to teach in high-need schools upon graduation/certification can be awarded $4,000 for the Fall 2008 semester (undergraduates) and $3,500 for the Fall 2008 semester (graduate students) in merit-based tuition scholarships.
NOTE: Application deadline for Fall 2008 is May 15, 2008.
Upon graduation, teacher candidates may apply for teaching positions in the partner districts or in a public, high-need school anywhere in the United States.
CHAPTER scholarships are funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants program, Title II of the Higher Education Amendments of 1998.
Eligibility
Under the conditions of the CHAPTER scholarship award, the best candidates are those who demonstrate a commitment to help others achieve equity and equal access in education. To fulfill this commitment, teacher candidates agree to teach in a high-need school upon graduation for the length of time scholarship funding is received (one year minimum).
Students who are awarded the CHAPTER scholarship are required to:
-
Demonstrate a commitment to improving educational opportunities for children, K-12, by agreeing to teach in a high-need school (local or out-of-region) for the length of time scholarship funding is received
-
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 / major GPA of 2.8 (minimum School of Education GPA requirements)
-
While CHAPTER offers merit-based scholarships, students must still file a FAFSA form with the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
