Emerging Chemists Workshop

Thank you for your interest in Loyola's Emerging Chemists Workshop!

The graduate student organization (GSO) and the Chemistry department at Loyola University Chicago are offering an opportunity for high school students to take part in hands on lab experiences. During the workshop, students will be able to actively participate in various experiments that have been prepared by graduate chemistry students.

The workshop will be conducted from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at our Lakeshore Campus in Chicago, Illinois. Check in will occur in the Flanner Hall building, room 105.
Students will be able to conduct experiments in the following labs:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Environmental Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic chemistry
  • Nanochemistry
  • Physical Chemistry

During the event, students will also have a chance to work on instruments to which they will not have an access outside of the University setting.

The workshop is intended not only for students who have career goals in fields of chemistry or biochemistry but also for anyone who would like to enhance his or her academic interests.
The workshop is free for high school students, but small groups are necessary (4 high school students per experiment) to assure unique hands on experimentation. Therefore, if you would like to take a part in this great chemistry adventure please register by filling out the on-line registration form http://www.luc.edu/chemistry/emerging_chemists_form.shtml by September 16, 2009.
