2012 Child Rights Fellowship Information Coming Soon (October 2011)
SPRING 2011 AFRICA CHILD RIGHTS FELLOWSHIP
Center for the Human Rights of Children
2011 Fellowship ($15,000)
Child Rights and African Youth
The Center for the Human Rights of Children (CHRC) applies a human-rights approach to the problems affecting children, reaffirming the principle of the indivisibility of human rights and the importance of promoting economic, social, cultural, civil, and political rights of children. It does so with respect for the rights and responsibilities of parents, teachers, and other caregivers entrusted with raising children. The Center seeks guidance and inspiration from the tradition of Catholic teachings on social justice as well as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The purpose of the 2011 faculty fellowship is to address this critical gap in child rights research related to child rights in Africa. The fellowship can support research projects that identify a problem that has not previously been recognized, develop new policy ideas to address familiar problems, or offer a new advocacy strategy. Applicants may focus on one country or region. Subject matter to be explored can include (but is not limited to) themes such as “Studies and Models of Child Research in Africa,” “Research as a Basis for Monitoring and Reporting Systems,” “Participatory Child Research and Child Rights,” “Migration and Dislocation,” “Child Labor, Social Welfare Services,” “Promoting Policy and Practice Relevant Knowledge on Child Rights,” “Promising Practices in Realizing Rights of Children,” or “Application of the CRC”.
Faculty and graduate students at Loyola University Chicago at Lakeside and Maywood campuses. Length of the award is 18 months. Within this time frame, the Faculty Fellow is required to present their research project at a forum sponsored by the Center for the Human Rights of Children, and submit a paper for publication and/or conference. The application deadline has been extended to Monday, April 18, 2011.
