Commencement Registration

Graduates will receive an e-mail sent directly to their LUC account from commencement@luc.edu with instructions for confirming attendance to the commencement ceremony.  You must check your Loyola e-mail account and complete this on-line verification.

 

Academic Apparel

Law candidates must wear regalia from Oak Hall Cap and Gown.   Your rental apparel is paid for by the Law School, but you are responsible for placing your order. Logon to www.oakhalli.com/loyolauniversity for instructions on ordering your apparel.  You must place your rental request by April 4 at 5pm.

 

Academic apparel will be distributed at Halas Sports Center 2nd floor gym on the Lake Shore Campus on: Saturday, May 17: 9:00am - 12:30pm.

 

Baccalaureate Mass

The Baccalaureate Mass will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 10:30am in the Madonna Della Strada Chapel, LSC.  Graduates and their families are welcome to participate.  Graduates may wear their academic apparel if they wish.

 

Graduate Instructions - Day of Ceremony

Graduates should arrive at the Lake Shore Campus no later than 11:30am on the day of the ceremony.   Upon arriving on the 2nd floor of Halas, graduates will be given a name and  seating card.   Keep this card with you at all times during the ceremony.  It is essential.  You will use it to find your assigned seat and also carry it on stage for the correct pronouncement of your name.

 

Graduates must be in their seats in the Gentile Center by 12:15pm.   Graduates should wear their caps and gowns to the ceremony, carrying their hoods draped over one arm.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 12:30pm. 

                                                                             

Graduates will hood themselves during the ceremony, when instructed to do so.

 

Purses and other items should be given to family members to hold during the ceremony. There is no area in which to leave these items and graduates will not return to the same seat after crossing the stage.

  

Guest Instructions

 

Directions & Parking –

The doors for the ceremony will open at 11:00am (1 ½ hours before the ceremony starts).  Parking is free but limited.  Security Officers will be directing traffic to open parking lots.  If you have a guest with a disability in your car, please inform a security officer and follow his/her instructions.  Graduates and their guests are strongly encouraged to use public transportation whenever possible.   Loyola is most easily accessible via the Red Line train on the “El”.  Go here for information on getting to campus as well as a map of the Lake Shore Campus.

 

Admission to Ceremony –

Guests should go directly to the Gentile Center.  They should not accompany the students to the graduate preparation area.  There will be ample seating in the Gentile Center for all of your guests on a first come first served basis.  There are no assigned or saved seats for guests.   Guests should be in their seats prior to the start of our ceremony at 12:30pm. Guests will not be permitted to take seats during the faculty procession.  Tickets are not required for admission.

 

Guests with Disabilities –

If you plan to bring a guest with a disability, in addition to providing information about him/her in the Commencement Registration, we ask that you notify Dora Jacks, Law Registrar at (312) 915-7167 so that we may try to assist you and your guests further.  Once inside, guests should approach marshals about special seating for disabled or elderly.  Only one companion may remain with the disabled person.  Hearing impaired guests who desire a sign language interpreter should call Associate Dean James Faught at (312) 915-7131 by May 1 to make arrangements.

 

Relatives of Graduates

By tradition, we allow graduates to invite relatives who are graduates of the Loyola School of Law to present the diploma cover on stage during the ceremony.  Please provide information about him/her in the Commencement Registration and then contact Dean Faught (312) 915-7131 for details.

Strollers –

Please note that strollers are not allowed in the Gentile Center.  Please leave them in

 your car.

Photography & Video

Guests will not be allowed to approach the stage during the ceremoy in order to take photos and/or videos/ We appreciate your cooperation as we strive to ensure the safety of all graduates and guests.

 

Chappel Studios will take graduate portraits on the 2nd floor of the Halas Sports Center up until 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.  During the ceremony, Chappel will take photos of each student as well as shoot a video that will be available for purchase.

 

GLS Commencement Dinner

The Office of Graduate Legal Studies will host a commencement dinner to honor graduates of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) and the Master of Jurisprudence (M..J.) degree programs on Thursday, May 15 at 6:00pm in Kasbeer Hall at 25 East Pearson.  All LL.M. and M.J. degree candidates will receive an invitation later this semester.

 

Reception

The School of Law will host a reception in honor of our graduates on Friday, May 16 beginning at 5:30pm in the Law Center at 25 E. Pearson.  Graduates are invited to bring family members and guests to join faculty, administration and staff in a joyful celebration of our graduates’ achievements.

 

Following the graduation ceremony, graduates and guests are invited to join faculty and staff from their school at a reception on Halas Field (rain location is Centennial Forum Student Union).

 

Laudatory Status

For purposes of the ceremony, laudatory status at graduation is unofficial for May and summer graduates.   Official status will be determined after final grades are submitted and will be recorded on the diplomas.   Details regarding eligibility for honors status are on the School of  Law  website.

 

Diplomas

Diplomas will be ordered after all grades have been processed and will be mailed to graduates permanent addresses in August.   Students are requested to verify the accuracy of their permanent address in LOCUS.   For more information about diploma distribution, click here.

 

 If you wish to pick up your diploma in the Law Registrar Office, or if you want your diploma  sent to an alternate mailing address, please notify the Law Registrar Office at: Law-Registrar@luc.edu before June 15.  You will be notified by e-mail when diplomas are available for pick at 25 East Pearson, Rm 1430, Water Tower Campus.
