College of Arts & Sciences
Eligibility to Participate
Because there is only one commencement ceremony per year, students are eligible to participate in the May 2011 commencement ceremony if they:
Received a Bachelors degree in December 2010 or
Completed all degree requirements by May 13, 2011; or
Plan to complete this requirement during Summer 2011 (students in this category must have the Assistant Dean confirm by April 1 that the student will complete the requirement during Summer 2011).
While students in the latter category above may participate in the May 2011 ceremony, their degrees will be formally conferred as of August 2011 after they have completed all degree requirements

Tickets will only be issued to graduates who will be participating in the commencement ceremony. Participating graduates must pick up their apparel and tickets in person, show a valid Loyola Student ID (or other photo ID), and sign for receipt of the tickets. Disabled graduates may send a representative.
Due to the size of our ceremonies, extra tickets are not available in the Dean's Office. Participating graduates who need extra tickets should check with other graduates who may not need all of their tickets.
Candidates who plan to participate in Commencement must wear academic apparel that can be purchased at the Grad Fair or University Bookstore. Note: the correct tassel colors for the College of Arts & Sciences are white (arts) or gold (sciences).

The College of Arts & Sciences is in search of two graduating seniors from the College of Arts and Sciences, Class of 2011, to speak on behalf of the graduating class. We are seeking one Bachelor of Arts graduate and one Bachelor of Science graduate. Candidates interested in delivering the speech or who would like to nominate another student should apply by March 28th, 2011. The speech should be three to five minutes in length. Ideally, the speech should reflect on the experience of graduates at a Jesuit university.
Interested graduates must send a letter of intent, along with an abstract of their speech and a brief resume, to the College of Arts & Sciences, Sullivan Center room 235 (email addresses below) by March 18th. It is important to include a telephone number and an address where you or your nominee may be contacted during the semester. Selected applicants will be notified by the College Committee on Commencement in early April and the final selection will be completed by late April. If you have any further questions, please telephone or email the College of Arts and Sciences at the numbers listed below.
Graduates and their guests are strongly encouraged to use public transportation whenever possible. Loyola is most easily accessible via the “El,” or elevated train. On the Red line, the Loyola stop drops you off directly across from campus, very close to the Gentile Center.
Both the 147 and 151 buses also have many stops close to campus, including ones at Winthrop Avenue and directly across from campus at the Loyola “El” stop on the red line. Please visit http://www.transitchicago.com/ for additional public transportation information.
Parking is free, but extremely limited. Due to general city traffic and limited resources, please expect lengthy delays when arriving and departing campus. Loyola’s Campus Safety works closely with the Chicago Police Department to manage traffic during Commencement weekend. Please adhere to all instructions given by these officers as they strive to ensure the safety of all our graduates and their families.
Parking passes are issued to students for their guests attending the College of Arts & Science ceremonies (May 13, 2011) and the School of Business Ceremony (May 14, 2011). Each graduate receives ONE parking pass for the main parking structure on the Lake Shore Campus. This pass will only admit ONE vehicle to the structure. Vehicles without parking passes WILL NOT be allowed access to the main parking structure.
