Commencement Registration

Graduates will receive an e-mail sent directly to their LUC account from with instructions for confirming attendance to the commencement ceremony.  You must check your Loyola e-mail account and complete this on-line verification.

Academic Apparel

Law graduates must wear rented apparel from Oak Hall Cap and Gown.   Your rental apparel is paid for by the Law School, but you are responsible for placing your order. All orders must be placed online by April 13th at 5:00pm.

Academic apparel for law students will be distributed at the Norville Intercollegiate Athletic Center on the Lake Shore Campus on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00am - 12:00 noon.

Baccalaureate Mass

The Baccalaureate Mass will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 10:30am in the Madonna Della Strada Chapel, LSC.  Graduates and their families are welcome to participate.  Graduates may wear their academic apparel if they wish. 

Graduation Fair

The University is hosting a Graduation Fair at the Water Tower Campus on Tuesday, April 2 from 11:00am – 7:00pm in Baumhart Hall at 26 East Pearson, Rooms 303-304.  Graduates can order announcements, take pictures in academic apparel, purchase diploma frames, etc.

Live Video-Streaming of Ceremony

The commencement ceremony will be available in a real-time online video feed from the Gentile Arena.  This is a great opportunity for family and friends who were unable to attend the ceremony to see it live.  Please check the Commencement home page on the day of the ceremony for a link.

Graduate Instructions - Day of Ceremony

Graduates should arrive at the Lake Shore Campus no later than 11:15 a.m. on the day of the ceremony.  Upon arrival, graduates should proceed to the preparation area in the Norville Intercollegiate Athletic Center to get their name/seating card.  Keep this card with you at all times during the ceremony.  It is essential.  You will use it to find your assigned seat and also carry it on stage for the correct  pronunciation of your name. 

Academic apparel will be distributed in the preparation area.  Graduates should wear their caps and gowns to the ceremony, carrying their hoods draped over one arm. All graduates will hood themselves during the ceremony, when instructed to do so.

Purses and other items should be given to family members to hold during the ceremony. There is no area in which to leave these items and graduates will not return to the same seat after crossing the stage.

Graduates must be in their seats in the Gentile Arena by 12:15 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. and will end at approximately 2:00 p.m.

Guests with Disabilities
No advance arrangements need to be made.  Once inside, guests should approach marshals about special seating for disabled or elderly.  Only one companion may remain with the disabled person.  Hearing impaired guests who desire an ASL interpreter should contact James Faught, Associate Dean at (312) 915-7131 by May 1 to make arrangements.

Relatives of Graduates
By tradition, we allow graduates to invite relatives who are graduates of the Loyola School of Law to present the diploma cover on stage during the ceremony.  Please contact Dean Faught at (312) 915-7131 for instructions.

Hotel Accommodations
A room block for May 19 for the School of Law Ceremony has been set aside.  Please see Guest Information.

Hospitality Station 
We will have a Hospitality Station set-up in the Centennial Forum Student Union - Rambler Room on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:00am for guests who are waiting for the Gentile Arena doors to open. Guests may purchase food and beverages throughout the day, but they will not be allowed to bring them into the Gentile Arena.

Guests are strongly encouraged to use public transportation whenever possible. Loyola is most easily accessible via train.  On the Red Line, the Loyola stop drops you off directly across from campus, very close to the Gentile Arena. Both the 147 and 151 buses stops close to campus, including ones at Winthrop Avenue and directly across from campus at the Loyola “El” stop on the Red Line. Please visit for additional public transportation information.

Parking is free, but extremely limited.  Due to general city traffic and limited resources, please expect lengthy delays when arriving and departing campus. Loyola’s Campus Safety works closely with the Chicago Police Department to manage traffic during Commencement weekend.  Please adhere to all instructions given by these officers as they strive to ensure the safety of all our graduates and families.


GLS Commencement Dinner

The Office of Graduate Legal Studies will host a commencement dinner to honor graduates of the Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.); the Master of Laws (LL.M.) and the Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) degree programs on Thursday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Corboy Law Center at 25 East Pearson, Kasbeer Hall, 15th Floor.


The School of Law will host a reception in honor of our graduates on Friday, May 17 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Corboy Law Center at 25 East Pearson, 10th floor Ceremonial Courtroom.  Graduates are invited to bring family members and guests to join faculty, administration and staff in a joyful celebration of our graduates' achievements.

A separate Reception will be held on May 18 immediately following the ceremony at the Klarchek Information Commons.

Laudatory Status

For purposes of the ceremony, laudatory status at graduation is unofficial for May and summer graduates.  Details regarding eligibility for honors status are on the School of Law website.


Diplomas are ordered after all grades have been processed and degrees have been posted.  Ensure that your permanent address is correct at: Diplomas will be mailed to graduates from the University's Office of Registration and Records, Water Tower Campus, Lewis Towers 504.  

If you wish to pick up your diploma, you may do so at the Office of Registration and Records, LT 504 if you inform the office prior to June 1 at

Graduation Fees

Graduation Fees do not apply to Law students.
