Day of the Ceremony Instructions

Commencement exercises for the Graduate School will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Gentile Arena on Loyola's Lake Shore Campus.

For PhD and DBe graduates

  • You should arrive 90 minutes before the ceremony to check in for the processional. Report to the Damen Student Center, 2nd Floor, located at 6511 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL 60626.
  • The "check-in" table will be located outside of the Schmidt Multipurpose Room, 2nd Floor, Damen Student Center. You will receive a seating card. This card will be your ticket for processional line up and to enter the Gentile Arena and will be used to read your name as you cross the stage. 
  • After check in, please proceed to the Schmidt Multipurpose Room to be lined up for the processional and with the faculty person who will hood you (dissertation director).
  • If you purchased your academic apparel please arrive already dressed.
  • If you are renting your academic apparel this is also where you will pick it up.
  • Purses and other items should be give to someone in your guest party to hold during the ceremony, since there will be no area to store these items. You WILL NOT return to the same seat after crossing the stage.
  • The ceremony begins promptly at 3:00p.m.

For Masters graduates

  • Graduates should arrive at least 90 minutes before the ceremony already dressed in their cap and gown to check-in.
  • "Check-in" is located at Damen Student Center on the 1st Floor in "The Den", located at 6511 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL 60626.
  • At check-in you will receive a seating card. This card will be your ticket into Gentile Arena and will be used to read your name as you cross the stage.
  • After receiving your seating card, graduates should proceed to Gentile Arena and be seated at least 15 minutes before the ceremony. The ceremony begins promptly at 3:00p.m.
  • Purses and other items should be given to someone in your gust party to hold during the ceremony, since there will be no area to store these items. You WILL NOT return to the same seat after crossing the stage.

Guests

  • Guests should proceed directly to Gentile Arena. No guests will be allowed into the "check-in" area ("The Den").
  • The doors to the Gentile Arena will open one hour prior to the start of the commencement ceremony. Guests who arrive late will be asked to wait outside until the processional has been completed. Guests will not be admitted during the invocation or speeches. 
  • The ceremony begins promptly at 3:00p.m.
