Water Tower Campus Construction Update
Construction continues for the new Michael R. Quinlan School of Business and Newcastle, Limited’s 35-story residential tower.
Loyola is seeking board of underground approval for the School of Business within the next month.
There will be no excavation or drilling until approvals are completed. Masonry repairs are scheduled for the 14-16 Pearson common wall this week. The work will consist of grinding, tuck-pointing and brick replacement along the east façade. The project team is working closely with our affected neighbors on masonry work. After masonry repairs are completed, there will be a sequence of demolition for a portion of 14 E. Pearson.
On the Newcastle project, the Power Construction team is finishing up caisson work early next week. This is a huge milestone as pouring caissons has been an arduous process. While the crew continues to be neighborhood-friendly in their efforts to minimize disturbance, they have needed to work past 8:00 p.m. to complete the concrete pour several days this past week. There are a total of six caissons on the Newcastle site.
On Saturday, the crew will start excavating on northwest end of Chestnut and State to enable utilities to access and install conduit on site.
During the first week November, the Chestnut Street south parking lane from State Street east to the alley will be barricaded. Pedestrian foot-traffic will be diverted to the north side of the street.
Starting in a few weeks, 21 E. Chestnut Association will enter into a tow contract for the alley of Chestnut and Wabash to prevent unauthorized vehicles from clogging access to the work site, loading dock and private residence.
Stay tuned to Loyola Neighborhood News to remain updated on the projects as they move forward.
