Loyola Farmer's Market to Offer Fresh Foods and Goods

Loyola Neighborhood News: Lake Shore Campus - V3, I8

The Loyola Farmer’s Market plans to open shop again this summer, providing Loyola and its neighboring communities with fresh, quality, seasonal, and local foods and goods. With the new location of 6590 N. Sheridan Road, the southwest corner of Albion Street and Sheridan Road will be buzzing with vendors and patrons alike every Monday from June 11 through October 15.

The Loyola University Chicago Farmer’s Market connects any community members with healthy, locally and sustainably grown produce and prepared foods. Originally the vision of a student project in the Loyola's Solutions to Environmental Problems (STEP) Food Systems course, over the past year the market has grown to include over 12 different vendors.

Conceptualized and planned by the students, the Market's goals are to:
Increase access to fresh nutritious locally grown and produced foods to community members in a densely populated urban setting
To contribute to Loyola's mission to serve those in need by providing a community gathering place where fresh, nutritious foods are affordable
To support small growers that apply sustainable agriculture and land conservation practices
To support small producers with entrepreneurial spirit
Provide a place where all can purchase local and seasonal foods to support the "farm to plate" lifestyle

Venders for the 2012 season will include
Mick Klug Fruit Farm
Armstrong Farm selling vegetables
Loyola Student Run Farm selling vegetables, and sourdough and multigrain breads
BOT Bakery selling vegan baked goods
Tomato Mountain Farm selling organic salsas, sauces, preserves and offers a CSA
C&D Family Farm selling locally raised eggs, frozen beef, chicken, and pork
