Loyola Neighborhood News: Retreat and Ecology Campus - V3, I2

Loyola’s campus in Bull Valley welcomes volunteers which are needed during during each season!  Help raise a hoophouse, plant grain, restore wetlands, harvest squash, or can pickles.  The list goes on! There are many opportunities for volunteering at the Loyola University Retreat and Ecology Campus.

Loyola Student Farm

Winter is in full swing and it is a great time for planning for the spring and summer crop.  Through the hoop house, students continue to raise winter vegetables and extra hands to pull weeds, mulch and harvest.

Volunteer opportunities on the Loyola Student Farm are offered to community members and Loyola faculty, staff, students, and alumni periodically throughout each season on a need-based schedule.
Seasonal volunteer opportunities include: spring – planting; summer – harvesting and processing; and fall – harvesting and bed amendments

Wetland Restoration Projects

Restoration work days are designated for the second Saturday of each month. Upcoming restoration projects for this winter include: removing brush and trees from the oak and hickory woodlands, improving drainage for the northern and southern parts of the wetland, and managing native plant life.  A light and healthy lunch is also provided to volunteers.
