University Core Curriculum Transition Guide

AP CREDIT

This guide shows how to apply Advanced Placement (AP) credit to the Core Curriculum. It applies to all students.

AP credit can be applied to the Core. Use the guide below to find out which Knowledge Area requirements you already have completed by way of satisfactory performance on an AP subject test.

Demonstrate effective communication skills
 
• Score of 4 or 5 on AP
Comp/Lang exam (3 hrs)
Artistic Knowledge or Experience

3 hrs - Demonstrate knowledge of, or experience in, artistic traditions and expressions
• Score of 3,4 or 5 on AP History of Art exam (3 hrs)

Historical Knowledge 6 hrs - Understand the importance of chronology, how to evaluate historical evidence, understand the process of change, capacity to handle diverse interpretations • Score of 4 or 5 on AP European History exam (6 hrs)

• Score of 3 on AP European History exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP American History exam (6 hrs)

• Score of 3 on AP American History exam (3 hrs)
Literary Knowledge or Experience

6 hrs - Demonstrate knowledge of, or experience in, literary traditions and expressions
• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Comp/Lang exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 3, 4 or 5 on AP Latin Literature exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 3, 4 or 5 on AP Virgil exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Mod. Lang. Literature exam (6 hrs)
Quantitative Literacy

3 hrs - Understand and analyze quantitative information presented in various formats.
• Score of 3, 4 or 5 on AP Calculus BC exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Calculus AB exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Statistics exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Comp. Science A exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 3, 4 or 5 on AP Comp. Science AB exam (3 hrs)
Philosophical Knowledge

6 hrs - Understand influential philosophic questions, positions, methods of inquiry; identify and assess implicit propositions; formulate and defend solutions to philosophic and ethical issues.
 
Scientific Literacy

6 hrs - Understand the basic principles, concepts, and knowledge of the sciences and understand the methodology of scientific inquiry.
• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Biology exam (8 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Chemistry exam (8 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Environmental Science exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Physics B exam (6 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Physics C/Mech exam (4 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Physics C/E&M exam (4 hrs)
Societal and Cultural Understanding

6 hrs - Understand belief, rituals, structures, and values of cultures; political, economic, and social systems of societies; and forms of expressions that make them understandable
• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Econ Micro exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Econ Macro exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Govt/Pol (American) exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Govt/Pol (Comparative) exam (3 hrs)

• Score of 4 or 5 on AP Psychology exam (3 hrs)
Theological & Religious Studies Knowledge

6 hrs - Develop familiarity with the basic content of, and modes of inquiry into, selected theological and religious systems.

 
Ethics
(this course can come from Philosophy or Theology and work in both requirements)

3 hrs - Demonstrate ethical awareness, the ability to do ethical reflection, and the ability to apply ethical principles in decision-making.
