About Us

In July 2007, the School of Education of Loyola University, Chicago, received a federal National Professional Development Grant from the Office of English Language Acquisition totaling $1,224,185 over a five-year period. This grant, Chicagoland Partners for English Language Learners (CPELL), provides tuition scholarships within the School of Education’s new M.Ed. program in Instructional Leadership—English Language Learner (ELL) Education to teachers in partner schools. Leadership preparation is a key component of this program, which is aimed at creating systemic change. CPELL also provides school-based comprehensive professional development to improve the classroom instruction of ELLs at partner schools. CPELL is distinctive in that it places an emphasis on developing ELL teacher leaders as well as educational and parental advocates for bilingual students.
