The first Director of Loyola's Center for Science and Math Education,
David Slavsky has been a Loyolan since 1982. A faculty member in the Physics and Natural
Science Departments, his efforts have been focused on science education on
both the undergraduate and pre-college levels. He was co-PI on a 3 year American
Astronomical Society project to train K-12 teachers as astronomy teacher resource
agent, has worked with the National Faculty's Delta Project, and given numerous
lectures at the Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry and Adler Planetarium. He is currently PI on 9 grants involving science
and math education, most of them involving close cooperation with the Office of Math and Science of Chicago Public Schools.
He served in the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office between 1992 and 2006.
In that time, he served as Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Associate and Senior Associate Dean of the
College,
Pre-Health Advisor, and in 2001-2002 was the Acting Dean of the College.
He received his Sc.B in space sciences from Brown University, his M.S. in applied
physics from Harvard, and his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin.
He has published in the area of stellar and planetary atmospheres. Married and the father of two,
he and his family share living quarters with five cats and two dogs.
