Earth & Environmental Science
in Inquiry to Build Content

The Inquiry to Build Content approach meets state and local standards in earth, space, and environmental science within the text materials and curriculum planning that we will provide.
  • In BSCS Biology: A Human Approach, a case-based approach to environmental concerns is used. Issues are posed as part of an “environmental dilemma” in which students must make decisions about regulating the environmental impact of farming. In these exercises students take into account carrying capacity, management of biotic and abiotic resources, and the economic impact of their decisions.

  • Chemistry in the Community (“ChemCom”) embeds the learning of chemistry in a series of problem-based units, such as “Petroleum: Breaking and Making Bonds,” which covers molecular structure from the perspective of an analysis of choices about fuels. The media materials that support ChemCom also proved strong content support in earth and environmental sciences.

  • In year three, special units on earth and space science will be woven into the Active Physics curriculum.
