Science IDS: Inquiry to Build Content


Record of Support in
Urban Districts

This IDS is led by university faculty at both LUC and UIC who have a long history of working with CPS teachers and students in schools and classrooms, including through:

  • professional development around science curricula in the SEPUP program that provides ongoing training and support for over 200 teachers from almost 100 schools;

  • high school inquiry projects that support 25 teachers in approximately 15 schools;

  • NSF and Department of Education funded projects that support over 50 teachers from 20 schools;

  • an NSF funded program to provide forty CPS teachers in the natural science and mathematics with UIC graduate students to assist them in their classroom over one school year;

  • ongoing coaching of teachers implementing reform curricula;

  • direct involvement on selection committees for various CPS science materials;

  • classroom assessment and program evaluation for CPS math and science, and;

  • an ISBE grant funded program for 24 CPS teachers to achieve endorsement in physics.
