Dr. John Kelly

Dr. John Kelly teaches general biology, microbiology and microbial ecology in the Department of Biology. His primary research interest is the field of microbial ecology and the analysis of complex microbial communities.

Dr. Kelly and students are conducting two research projects of interest to CUERP. Both projects examine the ways in which microbial communities respond and adapt to global change processes.

The first project is investigating the impacts of rising atmospheric carbon-dioxide levels on microbial communities in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The second project is investigating the composition and function of microbial communities in wetland sediments that have been invaded by exotic plant species.

Dr. John Kelly’s students conduct research on  responses to global climate changes on wetland microbial organisms.
