- Who Should Consider the Program in Urban Studies?
In the past, Urban Studies has asked students to submit an application for admission into the program. In the interest of simplicity, Urban Studies no longer requires an application. Instead, students who want to participate in the non-certificate track or the certificate track should register in LOCUS for SOCL/PLSC 335, and email Mr. Van Zytveld and Dr. Nyden, the Director Urban Studies, who will complete their LOCUS registration for URB 397. Please note that space is limited in the Urban Semester courses, so students who register earlier have priority over students who register later. Students in the certificate track will receive their certificates at the successful completion of their Urban Semester.
Students who want to declare a minor should make an appointment with Mr. Van Zytveld or Dr. Nyden and fill out a “declaration of a minor” card. When they graduate, their Urban Studies minor will be noted on their official Loyola transcript. Students are encouraged to meet with Mr. Van Zytveld or Dr. Nyden, to discuss participation and application of credit towards degree requirements.
Eligibility and Admission
Students in good academic standing from any Loyola University Chicago college or school are welcome to Urban Studies. Participants in the Urban Semester should be juniors or seniors, but participants in other courses may be freshman or sophomores.
Not Currently a Loyola Student?
Students not currently enrolled at Loyola are welcome to participate in Urban Studies but must first be admitted to Loyola. Please contact David Van Zytveld to discuss the best way to expedite admission to the university before applying to the Urban Studies program.
