What Attracted Me to CURL:

I first heard about CURL in my City, Suburbs and Beyond class, which led me to pick up the Urban Studies minor. I really admire CURL’s focus on public sociology-the idea that it is most beneficial when academia works with the community instead of on it. This theory finds that adding “more chairs to the table” improves project results for both the academic research and the communities of focus.

What I Hope to Gain from CURL:

I hope to gain greater depth in my knowledge of how communities operate within themselves, and on the national and global level. Since I am interning at CURL for school credit I hope to apply what I have learned in my classes to this hands on setting. As a Sociology major minoring in both Ethics and Urban Studies CURL provides a more dynamic direction in which I hope to continue my studies.
