What Attracted Me to CURL:

Growing up in Washington, DC I have seen the first hand issues of segregation and poverty. After moving to Chicago it was even more prevalent, which then fueled my passion for equality in all aspects of life; education, employment, citizenship, and social assistance programs. Majoring in Sociology with an Urban Studies minor has also given me the opportunity research and study many of the issues in our society today. CURL offered me the ability to take the experiences I have honed over my college career and apply them to work with community partners as well as strengthen my skills in research.

What I Hope to Gain from CURL:

I hope to learn more about urban issues and use the information I have learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world. Hopefully through this opportunity I will also be able to narrow down my interests in the social service field and gain perspective on how I can use my skills after college. Mostly, I am excited to learn more about issues within the city itself and how community partners work towards the betterment of others.
