Director
Philip
Nyden
Philip Nyden, Ph.D., is a professor and former chair of the Department
of Sociology and Anthropology at Loyola. He has done extensive research
and writing on urban policy issues, racial and ethnic diversity, and
university/community collaboration. Some of his publications include
Building Community: Social Science in Action, co-edited with
Darryl Burrows, Anne Figert, and Mark Shibley, 1997; Challenging
Uneven Development: An Urban Agenda for the 1990's, co-edited
with Wim Wiewel, 1991; Chicago: Race, Class, and the Response to
Urban Decline, with K. McCourt, L. Bennett, and G. Squires, 1987.

Program Coordinator
Maureen Hellwig
Maureen Hellwig assumed the position of PRAG Program Coordinator in
January, 1997 and became director of the Chicago Studies program in
1999. Previously, she served in a variety of community development positions
for such community organizations as Erie Neighborhood House, the Center
for Neighborhood Technology, and Uptown Center Hull House. Her experience
and interests have focused on workforce preparation, industrial retention,
affordable housing, and community organizing. She has taught courses
in community organization at Kendall College, Evanston, and qualitative
research at UIC. She received her Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University
of Illinois, Chicago.

Research & Internship Coordinator
Martin Mercado
Before coming to PRAG Martin ran the day to day operations of the Brownfield
Redevelopment Institute at CANDO and worked with industrial development
organizations.
In addition to coordinating PRAG's interns, Martin is Project Manager for the Community Information Technology Enterprise Project, funded by the National
Science Foundation.
Martin
received a Masters of Urban Planning and Policy from UIC and a Masters
in Organization Development from Loyola University Chicago.

Publications Manager/ Office Coordinator
Karen Ide
Karen Ide coordinates activities for both the Policy Research Action
Group and the Chicago Studies Graduate Program, and is also the Managing
Editor of PRAGmatics . She recently earned a Bachelors Degree in History
from Loyola University Chicago.
