Overview

CURL and Changing Worlds have created a research partnership for a new, stand-alone measurement development study as it relates to classroom quality. This three-year multi-method comparison group longitudinal research study will work with three schools in low-income diverse communities in Chicago and will result in valid and reliable measures to assess the impact of Changing Worlds' culturally-grounded literacy program. More specifically, in the Creating Culturally Competent Measures for integrated Arts, Literacy and Cultural Identity Curricula Project, the research partnership aims to create multiple methods to assess how culturally-relevant student-led ethnographic research, integrated with literacy and arts infused curricular approaches, strengthen the dynamics of the classroom community and influence academic outcomes. This process and outcome evaluation will assist Changing Worlds in evaluating their demonstration project in order to determine its effects on individual students, their classrooms, schools, and communities. The evaluation results will be used to inform future Changing Worlds programming, as well as provide support for a different alternative to traditional teaching methods.
