Project Team

A. Ryan, Faculty, School of Education
B. Brady, Mikva Challenge
A. Sharma, CURL

Overview

This partnership between CURL, Mikva Challenge, and Loyola's School of Education seeks to create a holistic 'civic engagement' curriculum for Chicago's middle school and high school students. Topics such as civil rights and democracy in action would be key components. It seeks to provide a unique program that engages students through shared local history and fosters youth leadership and activism through a service-learning approach. This linkage of historical elements with a leadership and service curriculum would create an innovative program that could provide a meaningful education experience in Chicago area schools and beyond. In doing so, it would integrate three key elements into a cohesive learning experience:

  1. Leadership and activism
  2. Civics
  3. History
