First Issue of gateways officially launched by curl and uts shopfront

In a Chicago-Sydney videoconference held on Oct 2 (Oct 3rd in Australia), Loyola University Provost Christine Wiseman and University of Technology Sydney UTS Head Librarian and UTS ePress Director Alex Byrne joined CURL editors in officially launching the first issue of Gateways. Provost Wiseman stated:

On behalf of Loyola President, Fr. Michael Garanzini, I congratulate Dr. Philip Nyden, the Center for Urban Research and Learning, the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney Shopfront for their success in launching this entrepreneurial international effort.

Both CURL and UTS Shopfront have become models of innovative and collaborative research on issues that matter to local communities. And you have done so quite literally from separate ends of the earth. After ten years of working together and supporting each other, it is fitting that you have chosen this Gateways Journal as a vehicle to facilitate global communications on these same issues. With your focus on case studies conducted by researchers from Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States, and plans to include such studies from other global sectors, your success is sure to form a global basis for community engagement and the scholarship of engagement.

Gateways is supported by CURL, the Loyola University Chicago Graduate School, and UTS Shopfront.
