Loyola 4 Chicago
Here is how Loyola4Chicago exemplifies the Jesuit ideals according to their nomination:
Loyola 4 Chicago consists of small groups of committed students who volunteer 4 hours of their time weekly to different charitable organizations in the Rogers Park and Uptown neighborhoods of Chicago. Students volunteer to tutor underprivileged children, assist with citizenship and English classes, teach jobs skills, visit seniors, staff shelters for persons who are homeless, and provide valuable resources to the poor. Loyola 4 Chicago members have provided a living example to the Loyola community of how to live the Ignatian ideal of service for and with others. The organization has produced community leaders who are fighting for the rights of the people they serve. Loyola 4 Chicago lives the Jesuit ideals through the spirit of service and reflection. By serving the less fortunate, members have developed a deep commitment to social justice issues. Reflection allows them the opportunity to share with each other this spirit of service and social justice. The speaker and large group reflection at the end of the semester allows them the opportunity to share with the larger Loyola community the Ignatian spirit the organization and its members foster.
