Matt Johnson, Senior
Here is how Matt exemplifies the Jesuit ideals according to his nomination:
Currently, Matt serves the Loyola community as the USG Vice President for JUSTICE; the student leader of the Pilsen Alternative Break Immersion trip; the President of the Loyola Anti-War Network; a founding and organizing member of the informal Friday afternoon peace vigil group; an active member of Loyola Students Against Sweatshops; an active participant in the movement to close the School of the Americas; and a student worker specializing in artistic design and website management for University Ministry. One very significant accomplishment in which Matt has played an instrumental role is the University Board of Trustees recent adoption of a socially responsibility investment policy for the University's financial assets. A second noteworthy dimension of Matt's leadership was his representation of Loyola at the Ignatian Family Teach-In at Ft. Benning. Matt lives the Jesuit ideals everyday, through his individual encounters and especially through his positions of leadership. As his work demonstrates, Matt is a living example of a faith that does justice. He is practicing and inviting his fellow students to practice "solidarity for the real world." Matt's words and works speak eloquently about the demands of Christian faith concretely embodied in just relationships.
