American Medical Student Association (AMSA)

Here is how AMSA exemplifies the Jesuit ideals according to their nomination:

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is deeply committed to social justice issues on campus and within the Loyola community. This large group of premedical students forms six exploratory committees that investigate and plan events regarding women’s health, community outreach issues, advocacy, medical education, fundraising, and humanistic medicine. These various committees work to promote education and expand the knowledge of AMSA members and the Loyola community. This year, AMSA has held open forums regarding social, moral and ethical issues in the field of medicine. In hopes of assisting improvements and understanding of world health problems, AMSA welcomes numerous speakers each semester to address the Loyola community. To name a few, AMSA has sponsored prestigious speakers such as Health care Ethics professor Dr. Ana Vigen, Loyola medical students researching cervical cancer issues while promoting global health, and the American Osteopathic Association with the goals of broadening students' perspectives of medicine. AMSA was also named the National Residence Hall Honorary’s “Loyola Organization of the Month” during the fall semester and has been awarded the “Rising Star Chapter” by the National Pre-medical AMSA board for incredible improvements in programming, membership, and presence on a national level. AMSA is most deserving of this award.
