Invisible Conflicts
Here is how Invisible Conflicts exemplifies the Jesuit ideals according to their nomination:
Invisible Conflicts has changed the lives of students by expanding their awareness of the world and empowering them to make a concrete difference in the lives of suffering children. A big part of our mission is to invite everyday people to join the quest for social justice the world over. We have linked our community with one in Gulu Uganda, told the story of Uganda's children to thousands of people, emboldened students to dream big and take serious action. One of the things we all agreed on during our founding meetings last Springs was the need to take a positive approach to social justice. We recognize that many people feel powerless to make a change in the world, and so we seek to empower our peers by giving them simple concrete things they can do to make a difference in the lives of the worlds poor. For example, we pass out pens, paper and envelopes to every person that comes to one of our events and ask them to write a letter to the U.S. government representative of their choice about the issues we bring up, then we collect, address, stamp, and send them. When two hundred students in an auditorium see all of their letters stacking up, you can feel the excitement in the room: together we CAN make a difference. Invisible Conflicts is most deserving of this award.
