Mary McEvoy

Mary McEvoy, Junior

Here is how Mary exemplifies the Jesuit ideals according to her nomination:

Mary McEvoy has been extremely involved in the Loyola community, particularly in University Ministry. As the intern for the Alternative Break Immersion program, she has been a part of giving students a chance to be a person for others and learn about justice by encountering a new culture. Mary also is involved with our larger Chicago community and helps other students to be as well by leading a Loyola4Chicago group to REST Homeless Shelter. Finally, Mary's leadership has been instrumental in getting campus-wide support for the students who protest at the School of the Americas. Mary has demonstrated her passion and strength in her convictions by continuing to push for support in the face of overwhelming resistance.  As well as encourage her fellow Loyola students to discover themselves through awareness (participant of SOA protest) and action (Loyola4Chicago and ABI), Mary reaches out to the community, learning from others the human relationships often hard to find in a classroom and books. Welcoming and understanding, Mary is open to the experiences of every person she meets, Loyolan or not, and including their experience into her own life.  Mary is most deserving of this award.
