Loyola University Chicago

Department of Fine and Performing Arts

All students pursuing a major or minor degree in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts are assigned an advisor with expertise in that major or minor soon after declaring their intent to pursue the degree. All DFPA degree-seeking students should meet with their DFPA academic advisor each semester prior to course registration to assure they are taking the appropriate classes to complete their degree in a timely manner. In addition, DFPA advisors will offer advice on preparing for auditions and portfolio development. Students seeking majors in Music and Theatre receive letters from their advisors summarizing the results of faculty’s end of the semester student evaluations.

Students are advised to keep track of their progress towards degree completion by consulting the appropriate degree tracking sheeteach semester.

Declaring a Minor

Students who wish to minor in Dance should make an appointment with the Director of Dance, Sandra Kaufmann. The director or department will sign the student’s major/minor declaration form (to be taken to the Sullivan Center), help work out a schedule, and answer any questions the student may have.

An audition is not required for dance class placement. However students should see the Standards for Placement in Dance Courses or the Director of Dance, Sandra Kaufmann, to determine the dance level that best meets the student’s skill level.

Substitutions are occasionally allowed when it is difficult to fulfill the requirements, but you must see the director for permission.
