Ms. Cora D. Mitchell teaches Ballet I and Jazz II at Loyola University Chicago.

 

Ms. Mitchell, originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, was formally trained by Irma Witt O'Fallon and went on to become a member of THE KNOXVILLE BALLET COMPANY from 1980-1986.  In 1990, she graduated with honors and received her BFA from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Judith Jamison, Patricia Thomas, Barabara Sandonato, Alexi Yudenich, Andrew Pap, Maurice Hines, Ronen Koresh, Donald Lunsford, and Naomi Mindlin were only a few of her many instructors.

 

Ms. Mitchell moved to Chicago, in 1991 to accept a full scholarship with The Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theatre and danced for 2 years in the second company. She has also been a member of Winifred Haun & Dancers and The Body Language Dance Company. In June 2005, she joined The Willingham Project under the artistic direction of former principal dancer of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Lisa Johnson-Willingham. In the summer of 2005, Ms. Mitchell performed with the project in Thodos New Dances and also performed in the Alvin Ailey Summer Camp Benefit. She has also worked with Wilfredo Rivera of Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre and Danceloop Chicago in collaboration with MOMENTA in October 2005.   Cora has also worked with many other choreographers, such as:

Ms. Mitchell, in summers of 2006 and 2007 along with Matthew Kerns and Patricia Rusk, was on faculty with summer intensive/theater arts program, TRIPLE THREAT, with the Naperville School of Performing Arts.

 

Ms. Mitchell's repetoire "ALRIGHT" (MOMENTA) was premiered in Europe at a 10 day dance festival  TANSZOMMER, in June 2007.   The jr. dance company performed her work along with other MOMENTA rep. pieces in:

ST. JOHANN, AUSTRIA

 

Ms. Mitchell is an instructor at the Academy of Movement and Music in Oak Park, Illinois and a choreographer/company member of MOMENTA Dance Company, and in Winter 2008 will launch her own "self titled" photography website.
