Dr. Kim Sanborn has been a member of the Fine Arts faculty of Loyola University since 1984.  Her ceramic pottery and sculpture was exhibited continuously in the Chicago area from 1980 to 2001. She was part owner of Chicago Clay Feat, a Rogers Park studio and gallery, from 1980 to 1995. 

 

Dr. Sanborn's experience teaching studio art informs her pedagogy in other disciplines as well as her advocacy of student-centered learning.  Her chapter Education that Transforms and Liberates in Educational Technology: Critical Perspectives, Possible Futures details her research findings regarding college student learning in studio art. In addition,

 

Dr. Sanborn is the director of the McNair Scholars Program at Northeastern Illinois University, where she also teaches research methods to undergraduate and graduate students, seminars on teaching college and preparing for graduate study, and a field-based art appreciation course for first-year students. She is involved with curriculum development for the First Year Experience Program, the university’s service learning initiative, and strategic planning.
