PERSONAL INFORMATION
M.F.A., The School of the Art Institute of Chicago
B.A., Wesleyan University
Mr. James Jensen was twice named a Master Teacher in the College of Arts & Sciences. He teaches courses in both the practice and history of photography. His photographic work includes traditional documentary applications as well as experimental imagery using alternative processes. His area of specialization is nineteenth century American photography, of which he has published a monograph about a prominent Illinois photographer and numerous articles about the professional practice of photography.
Mr. Jensen's current research examines the intersection of art and commerce: how the initial impulse to have photography recognized as a fine art was shaped by mercantile competition.
