About
The camp provides a challenging artistic program within a supportive, non-threatening environment. Classes, taught by experienced teachers and artists, balance skill building with creative exploration and play.
Age Groups
Children ages 6-7 and 8-10
- Students will explore the visual arts of drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking in combination with movement, performance and storytelling.
Children ages 11-14
- Students will focus on faces, figures, and telling stories through painting, drawing (with a variety of media) and cartooning. Strong emphasis is placed on developing and improving skills.
Schedule
Campers are allowed to attend the camp for either 2 weeks or 4 weeks. They can also choose between morning only or all day sessions. The Six different options are as follows:
SESSION A - Four Week - July 6-30
- All Day (9am-5pm), Tuition $1350
- AM Only (9am-12:30pm), Tuition $700
SESSION B - Two Week - July 6-16 - 9 Days
- All Day (9am-5pm), Tuition $700
- AM Only (9am-12:30pm), Tuition $375
SESSION C - Two Week - July 19-30 -10 Days
- All Day (9am-5pm), Tuition $725
- AM Only (9am-12:30pm), Tuition $375
Location
Classes are held in the Mundelein Center (1020 W. Sheridan Rd.) located at Loyola University Chicago's Lake Shore Campus. This facility features newly renovated, state-of-the-art studios, as well as easy access to large green spaces for fresh air and outdoor play, a sandy beach, and easy drop off/pick up for parents on the go.
Faculty
All faculty have won numerous awards including several Illinois Arts Council grants and residencies at the Ragdale Artist Colony. The camp draws on their long history as collaborators and creators of caring learning communities.
Patricia Pelletier is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Art Education at the School of the Art Institute and serves as the Program Director for the camp, along with being the 11-13 year olds visual arts instructor and camp storyteller.
Donna Mandel has a Masters in Teaching in Elementary Eduaction and certification in Early Childhood. She serves as a residency artist and consultant in dance and dance integration. She teaches movement and storytelling to both 6-7 and 8-10 year olds.
Kathleen Maltese has a Masters of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and certification in Secondary Art Education from Northeastern University. She teaches visual arts to both 6-7 and 8-10 year olds.
Regstration
Registration begins on March 1, 2010.
