Xavier Benavides graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in Philosophy and English and from the University of Michigan with a MBA focusing on HR. After college, he initially volunteered with AmeriCorps in South Carolina and as an AmeriCorps Leader in Seattle, WA working with street youth. He then served as a YES Ambassador for the Points of Light Foundation in Austin, TX working to promote service among young people. Afterwards, he worked in Diversity Education at Texas A&M University, advising students of color and teaching classes on student activism. For the next few years, he worked at Oxfam America in Boston, MA as an Organizer and Training Coordinator leading international campaigns focused on poverty and social justice. While pursuing his MBA, Xavier made the switch to corporate America and has worked for Microsoft, Cisco Systems, and Amazon in HR and corporate social responsibility. Lastly, he decided to become a Jesuit and entered the Oregon Province and has had the chance to teach high school in Watts in LA, advise college students at Gonzaga University and serve as a hospital chaplain at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynnwood, CA. He is currently pursuing a MA in sociology and working with the Chicago Jesuit Academy in Austin.
